New exposition of Zurab Tsereteli’s artworks. Sculptural cycle “Our contemporaries”

The opening of the new exposition of artworks by ZURAB TSERETELI, President of the Russian Academy of Art, as well as presentation of his sculptural cycle “Our contemporaries” is due to be held on November 3rd, 2004 at 6 PM in the “Art Gallery”, museum and exhibition complex of the Russian Academy of Art.

Less than two years have passed since the opening of his previous personal exhibition and once again the artist surprises us by the implementation of his enormous creative potential and his ability to execute new ideas and plans. Each section of the exhibition has been enriched by his newly created artworks.

The series of Tsereteli’s sculptural portraits “Our contemporaries” comprises portraits of noted figures of art whose names are associated with great cultural achievements of the early 20th century. The renowned names of Fiedor Shalyapin and Vsevolod Meyerhold, Alexander Block, Sergei Yessenin, Vladimir Mayakovski, Anna Akhmatova, Nickolai Ghumilev, Osip Mandelshtam, Boris Pasternak, Ivan Bunin are in the golden fund of home and world artistic legacy. On display is a big gallery of portraits of eminent figures of culture and art of these days, among them a special place is taken by figures of the 1960s: Andrew Dementiev and Andrew Voznesenski; Eugene Evtushenko and Bella Akhmadullina; Vladimir Spivakov and Iosif Kobzon; Ilya Reznik and Galina Volchek; Yuri Bashmet and Eldar Ryazanov; George Danelia and Zhores Alfierov; Boris Efimov and Michael Koltsov; Vasili Shukshin and Bulat Okhudzhava. Very impressive are images of Alexi Ï, the Patriarch of All Russia; Ilya Ï, Patriarch of All Georgia and St. Nickolas the Wonder Worker. Visitors can also see Tsereteli’s sculptural compositions “A sound mind in a sound body”, “The man on duty in the city”, “Sportman”, as well as new monumental images dedicated to Vladimir Vysotski, Iosif Brodski. The series “Our contemporaries” is going to be enlarged by new works.
